Coco Martin: Teleserye King

Coco MartinCoco Martin, or Rodel Nacianceno in real life, was born on November 1, 1981. He started out in showbiz as one of the members of Star Magic’s Star Circle Batch 9 in ABS-CBN. His claim to fame are the indie films Masahista and Daybreak which earned him raves and awards here and abroad.

Coco’s first ever film appearance was a cameo role in the 2001 film Luv Txt starring Judy Ann Santos, where he was credited under his real name, Rodel Nacianceno.

He then had a brief haitus in acting but has appeared in several TV advertisements before breaking back into showbiz via the film Masahista (Masseur) which won him the Young Critics Circle Best Actor Award in 2006. Masahista was his first ever lead role. He also starred in Kaleldo (Summer Heat) in 2006.

Early in 2007, Martin became an exclusive artist of GMA Network, and appeared in several GMA TV shows starting with Daisy Siete. He also became a member of the boy-group The Studs. Martin was also seen in independent gay-oriented films Daybreak and Jay.

In 2008, Martin returned to ABS-CBN as an exclusive artist and was cast in Ligaw na Bulaklak as one of the regular cast members.

He also starred in the drama series Tayong Dalawa where he won the Best Drama Actor in the 2009 Star Awards for Television and started getting meatier roles. In the afternoon soap opera titled Nagsimula sa Puso, he was cast as one of the lead characters.

He got his biggest break on television via the primetime drama, Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo in 2010. He was then cast as title character in Tonyong Bayawak and starred with Sarah Geronimo and Sam Milby in the short-lived musical series, 1DOL.  Also in 2010, Coco was cast in his first mainstream film, Sa ‘yo Lamang. More mainstream film projects followed such as Born to Love You, with Angeline Quinto, and A Moment in Time with Julia Montes.

His impeccable acting in the 2012 series Walang Hanggan, with Richard Gomez, Dawn Zulueta, Susan Roces, Helen Gamboa, and Julia Montes, made him a household name. The following year, he was launched as Filipino super hero, Juan Dela Cruz, which became a phenomenal success.

Coco Martin currently star, opposite Kim Chiu, in the period drama series, Ikaw Lamang.
