Toni Gonzaga: The Ultimate Multimedia Star

Toni Gonzaga

Toni GonzagaTop notch television host, actress and recording artist Toni Gonzaga (Celestine Cruz Gonzaga in real life) was born on January 20, 1984 to Christian parents Carlito and Crisanta Gonzaga. She has a younger sister, Catherine (aka Alex Gonzaga), who is also in show business.

At a young age, Toni Gonzaga has already shown immense talent in singing which she unselfishly shared in school programs and church services. She also ventured in a bit of politics when she ran and won as a Baranggay Kagawad in her hometown, Taytay, Rizal.

Because of her desire to become an artista, Toni Gonzaga auditioned and became one of the talents of the GMA Artist Center.  However, she wasn’t given much projects and exposure during her stay.  A big break came when a softdrink commercial was offered to her when she was just 17 years old.  It was the popular Sprite commercial with then rising matinee idol Piolo Pascual.  The rest as they say is history.  She was noticed and was given a hosting stint on the hit noontime variety show Eat Bulaga where she further honed her hosting skills.

Toni was then chosen to co-host the news-satire program Wazzup Wazzup with Vhong Navarro on Studio 23, a subsidiary of ABS-CBN which is a network rival of GMA.

Without a contract and no plans to boost her career, she decided to leave GMA 7 and join the Kapamilya Network. The transfer wasn’t an easy one.  She was lambasted and called names for her decision to seek greener pastures that would give her the opportunities to hone and share her talents.

But that was all in the past now.  Toni says that she is in a happy place now, with a booming career in television, movies and the recording industry. Her stint as the main host of the phenomenal reality show, Pinoy Big Brother catapulted her to fame.  She has became a household name. Many say that she is the biggest winner in the successful Big Brother franchise.

Aside from the hit reality show, she was also given the chance to be part of some of the top-rating television shows such as ASAP, Pinoy Dream Academy, Crazy For You, Maging sino Ka Man 2, Entertainment Live, Precious Hearts Romances Presents: Ang Lalaking Nagmahal Sa Akin, and most recently, The Buzz. She is slated to star in the upcoming fantasy series Kokey @ Ako with Vong Navarro.

She has also proven her box-office clout with such blockbuster hits as D’ Anothers and My Only You with Vong Navarro and You are the One, You Got Me and My Big Love with Sam Milby. Her most recent movie outing was the hit Ang Tanging Pamilya: A Marry Go Round with Former President Joseph Estrada and ace comedienne AiAi Delas Alas.  Her first movie Pakners with the late King of Philippine Cinema Fernando Poe, Jr., remains as one of her most favorite.

Singing being her first love, Toni has produced five albums under Star Records namely: You Complete Me, Falling In Love, Love Is…, Love Duets with Sam Milby, and the most recent All Me.

At present, Toni co-hosts top entertainment talk show The Buzz together with Boy Abunda and Charlene Gonzales. She is slated to star in an upcoming Star Cinema movie with Angel Locsin, Bea Alonzo and Angelica Panganiban, after her latest starrer, “This Guy’s In Love With You Mare,” with Vice Ganda and Luis Manzano, which is also a certified hit.

Although she has become immensely popular, Toni Gonzaga has remained simple and down to earth.  She still enjoys playing with her pet golden retriever named WuWu and admits to collecting Christian Louboutin shoes as one of her guilty pleasures. She has been linked to several actors including Vong Navarro, Luis Manzano and Sam Milby but her heart belongs to director Paul Soriano, her boyfriend for the past 4 years.
