Angel Locsin: The Young Super Star

Angel LocsinAngelica Locsin Colmenares, more popularly known as Angel Locsin,  was born on April 23, 1985 in Santa Maria, Bulacan. She grew up under the care of her father, Angelo Colmenares, when her parents separated when she was just 14 years old.

Locsin finished her elementary education in Bulacan and her secondary education at the University of Santo Tomas High School in Manila.  She later on took up a short-course on fashion design at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London in 2007.

The two-time FHM’s Most Sexiest Woman (2010 and 2005) was discovered by a talent scout while shopping at SM City North Edsa.  She started out as a GMA Network talent starring in the  youth-oriented show “Click” and the soap opera “Ang Iibigin Ay Ikaw Pa Rin.”

The GMA fantasy series “Mulawin” catapulted Locsin’s career in August 2004 where she played the role of Alwina opposite Richard Guttierez’s Aguiluz.  The series was a huge success and prompted a movie version in December 2005, an entry for the Metro Manila Film Festival.

After “Mulawin,” Locsin’s next project on the Kapuso Network was the television adaptation of the Mars Ravelo classic “Darna” where she took on the lead role in 2005.  The drama fantasy action TV series own the distinction of being the first primetime series to reach a 47.1% rating (according to AGB and AC-Nielsen) in its pilot episode in the Philippines.

Locsin made two more TV projects for GMA, “Majika” in 2006 and “Asian Treasures” in 2007 opposite action star Robin Padilla.  She then made a controversial decison to transfer to rival network ABS-CBN in August 2007 and earned much flak and criticism from previous employers.

At the Kapamilya Network, Locsin first appeared on the top-rating weekly drama anthology “Maalala Mo Kaya.”  She was then launched in her first Kapamilya drama series “Lobo” opposite Piolo Pascual in January 2008 which also got a huge following.  Locsin was also nominated in the Best Performance by an Actress category of the 37th International Emmy Awards for her role  as the half human-half  wolf Lyka Raymundo.

Other movies done by Locsin are Mano Po 2, Kuya, Singles, Sigaw, Mano Po III: My Love, Let the Love Begin, I Will Always Love You, TxT, Mano Po 5: Gua Ai Di, The Promise, Angels and Love Me Again.

Locsin was last seen on the Philippine version of the Korean drama “Only You” together with Sam Milby and Diether Ocampo.  Her last TV series was the fantasy-drama series “Imortal” with John Lloyd Cruz, a sequel to her previous series “Lobo.” She also did a movie with Aga Muhlach, entitled “In The name of Love.”

Angel also dabbled in comedy via the weekly sitcom, Toda Max, alongside Robin Padilla, Vhong Navarro and Pokwang.

In 2012, she won as Best Actress from various award giving bodies including FAMAS and Star Award for Movies, for her performance in One More Try, an official entry to the Metro Manila Film Festival 2012.

In 2013, she co-starred with other leading Kapamilya actresses, Bea Alonzo, Toni Gonzaga and Shaina Magdayao, in the comedy drama Four Sisters and a Wedding. She is slated to portray the iconic Pinay superhero, Darna, on the big screen this year.

Angel currently stars in the teleserye, The Legal Wife, with Jericho Rosales, Maja Salvador and JC de Vera.

Bea AlonzoBea Alonzo, or Phylbert Angellie Ranollo in real life, was born on of October, 17, 1987.  She was raised single-handedly by her mom. Even at a very young age, it has always been Bea’s dream to become a famous movie actress.

She started joining beauty contests when she was small, considering pageants as stepping stones to reach her ultimate goal of becoming a star. During one of these contests, fashion designer Oscar Peralta spotted her and introduced her to some key people in show business who opened opportunities for the Filipina-British girl. Her father was a retired PLDT employee while her mom used to run a beauty parlor in their house at Sta. Cruz, Manila. Sarah is the third of four children with siblings Johna Rizzie, Sunshine Grace, and Ezekiel Gabriel.

Judy Ann Santos: Soap Opera Queen

Jake CuencaJuan Carlos Leveriza Cuenca, more popularly known as Jake Cuenca, was born on December 30, 1987 in San Jose, California, United States, where he grew up. His father is of Spanish descent and is from Valencia, Spain, while his mother is a Filipina. He has a brother named Rufo and a sister named Bea. He was also once a student of PAREF Southridge, a school for boys in Muntinlupa City.

Jake started his showbiz career at a tender age of nine after being discovered by a talent scout for Cosmo Modeling Agency. Soon after, he made several television and print commercials including endorsements for Safeguard, Coke and Globe Telecom. At age ten, he had a cameo role in the 1997 film Wansapanataym. He was born on September 22, 1979 in the province of Quezon.  His first taste of fame was when he was declared the winner of  Mr. Pogi,  a male beauty contest segment in noontime variety show,  Eat Bulaga.
