Vhong Navarro: Mr. Suave

Vhong NavarroVhong Navarro (born Ferdinand Hipolito Navarro on January 4, 1977) is a Filipino actor, comedian, dancer, singer, and host at ABS-CBN. He is part of the dance group Streetboys in the Philippines.

As part of the dance group Streetboys, Vhong was discovered by director Chito S. Roño who continues to manage him up to the present. Among the products he endorsed are Sprite, Pop-Cola, RRJ, Lucky Me, Selecta Ice Cream and Blu Tab.

He was married to Lalaine Bianca Lapus but the Philippine Court of Appeals affirmed the annulment of their marriage on July 9, 2008.

Vhong Navarro appeared on such Kapamilya shows as Home Along The Riles, Super Laff-In, Whattamen, Wazzup Wazzup, Yes Yes Show, Gudtym, and I Love Betty La Fea.

He played the lead characters in Mars Ravelo’s Lastikman and Kokey @ Ako and was also part of the defunct sitcom Toda Max alongside Robin Padilla, Angel Locsin and Pokwang. He is a regular performer on the Sunday noontime variety show ASAP and one of the original co-hosts of the daily noontime variety game show It’s Showtime with Billy Crawford, Anne Curtis, Karylle and Vice Ganda.

Vhong also starred in several box office hits including Mr. Suave, Gagamboy, D’ Anothers, Agent X44, Supahpapalicious, My Only U, and Bulong. He is set to star in another horror-comedy flick Da Possessed.

On January 22, 2014, Navarro got involved in a controversial mauling incident that left him severely injured. In an interview aired on Buzz ng Bayan, Vhong named businessman Cedric Lee and his gang as the perpetrators. In a television interview, Lee admitted beating the comedian but he and his friends only did so to rescue an aspiring model-actress Deniece Cornejo from being sexually abused by Navarro.

Vhong has since filed criminal charges, including illegal detention, serious physical injuries and extortion, against Lee, Cornejo and their friends. In response, Cornejo has filed rape charges against the comedian.

On February 19, 2014, a certain Roxanne Cabanero filed another rape case against Navarro. The woman claimed that she was raped by Navarro four years ago. Netizens were quick to notice discrepancies in the woman’s sworn statement including the date of the alleged rape incident. Navarro’s camp downplayed the new allegation and linked the complainant to Lee, who previously revealed that at least 8 other women have contacted him and said that they, too, were rape victims of Navarro.

After more than a month of absence from It’s Showtime to recuperate from his injuries, Navarro returned on the show on March 8, 2014. He has also resumed filming for Da Possessed opposite a new leading Lady, Solenn Heussaff.
