Queen of All Media Kris Aquino revealed on Wednesday night that she is quitting Aquino & Abunda Tonight, her top-rating weeknight entertainment talk show with Boy Abunda. Aquino made the announcement during the press conference of her upcoming film, Etiquette for Mistresses.
After months of absence, the controversial host-actress will return to the show on Monday for her "final week". Kris cited her health issues as the main reason why she has to give up the show.
"Babalik po ako sa Aquino & Abunda on Monday for my final week, Kris said. "Because alam niyo the health issues I went through, I cannot shoot a movie and do two daily shows," she added.
In the past months, Aquino has been complaining of severe allergic reactions and other ailments which caused tapings for her daily talk show KrisTV to be packed up and for her not to attend to her hosting duties on Aquino & Abunda Tonight. Recently, she was rushed to the hospital after a severe vascular headache caused her blood pressure to shoot up. She said she could have had a stroke if it had been just a bit higher.
Aquino also took a leave of absence from A&AT while filming Etiquette for Mistresses, her much anticipated movie with the returning Kapamilya actress, Claudine Barretto, alongside Kim Chiu, Iza Calzado and Cheena Crab. The film, which is based on the best-selling novel by Julie Yap-Daza, is directed by Chito Roño and slated for a September 30 release.
Starting Monday, Kris will once again appear on A&AT which will close with a grand send off for her on Friday, Boy Abunda said on the show's Wednesday night episode. Abunda will continue to host the show, re-titled, Boy Abunda Tonight.
Meanwhile, Kris will continue to be busy filming another movie, Mr. and Mrs. Split, an entry to this year's Metro Manila Film Festival, which pairs her with former flame, Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista. The two had a short-lived romance in 2014 which ended in a controversial breakup. According to the grapevine, they have patched things up and are currently playing sweet music once again, albeit in a more discreet manner. The film will also star Kris' son Bimby Aquino-Yap and child actress Jana Cassandra Agoncillo of Ningning under the direction of Antoinette Jadaone.
