Born Kimberly Sue Yap Chiu on April 19, 1990 in Tacloban City, Kim Chiu is one of the most sought-after leading ladies of her generation. She gained popularity when she joined and eventually won as the first winner of Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Edition (PBB) in 2006, earning a phenomenal 626,562 votes (41.4% of the total votes). She was the only housemate of that edition who was never nominated for eviction.
Immediately after winning in the PBB Teen Edition, Kim signed up as a talent of Star Magic – the talent management arm of ABS-CBN. Together with PBB co-housemate Gerald Anderson, Kim Chiu appeared in Kapamilya network shows such as Love Spell and the sitcom Aalog-Alog. Chiu and Anderson also appeared in their first movie together as a love team in First Day High from Star Cinema.
In 2007, Chiu and Anderson starred in the movie I’ve Fallen For You under Star Cinema. That same year, Chiu starred in her first primetime TV series entitled Sana Maulit Muli alongside Anderson. It was the pair’s biggest break. The show was very successful that it topped the ratings in its airtime. Kim and Gerald were then cast as the lead stars in Philippine adaptation of My Girl, a Korean series.
In January 2009, Kim Chiu starred in the TV series entitled Tayong Dalawa which gave her several acting awards. She also became part of Star Cinema’s official entry to the 2009 Metro Manila Film Festival, I Love You, Goodbye.
In 2010, Chiu starred in her fifth movie, Paano Na Kaya, and in the primetime drama, Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo.
Coinciding with the release of the hit movie Till My Heartaches End, news broke that Chiu and Anderson decided to call it quits both in reel and real life. This was, of course, not taken lightly by “Kimerald” fans who allegedly sent death threats to Anderson and Bea Alonzo, who was then rumored to be the actor’s new apple of the eye.
In 2011, Chiu starred in the romantic-comedy series, My Binondo Girl, her first television series without Anderson. Instead, she was given three leading men, namely: Xian Lim, Matteo Guidicelli, and Jolo Revilla. Her team up with Xian was so well received by fans that it spawned another hit teleserye, Ina, Kapatid, Anak, with Maja Salvador, Enchong Dee, Janice de Belen, Ariel Rivera and Cherry Pie Picache, and two blockbuster films: Bakit Hindi Ka Crush Ng Crush Mo? and Bride for Rent.
Despite the record breaking success of her recent films with Xian, Kim was paired with King Of Primetime Coco Martin in her latest TV project, the top rating period drama series, Ikaw Lamang.
In 2012, Kim starred in two films: The Healing, the horror suspense film with Vilma Santos and Star Magic’s 20th anniversary presentation, 24/7 in Love, which reunited her with Gerald Anderson.
