Born Marie Rachel Salman Taleon on March 4, 1969, Dawn Zulueta is one of the most beautiful faces in Philippine show business. She is also one of the most awarded actresses of her generation, holding the distinction of winning both the Filipino Academy of Movies Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) awards for Best Lead Actress (Hihintayin Kita sa Langit) and Best Supporting Actress (Una Kang Naging Akin) in 1991.
Dawn Zulueta has also proven her box office clout when she was declared by the Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Foundation Entertainment Award as the Box Office Queen of 1994 for starring in that year’s highest-grossing film: The Maggie Dela Riva Story…God Why Me?
She also received numerous awards and recognition as a bankable actress for her portrayals in such films as Kung Mawawala Ka Pa and Buhay ng Buhay Ko.
After getting married with Davao Del Norte Representative and businessman Anton Lagdameo, she lied low in showbiz to build their family. They have two kids, Jacobo and Ayisha. She eventually returned to acting via small roles in GMA soap operas. In 2011, she was cast as “Magda” in the remake of the original 1997 TV series of the same title.
It was her reunion with former boyfriend/love team Richard Gomez in the top rating teleserye Walang Hanggan on ABS-CBN in 2012 that made her a household name once again. In 2013, she was tapped to replace Maricel Soriano who was removed from the cast of Bukas na Lang Kita Mamahalin after a controversial rift with the series’ lead actor, Gerald Anderson.
Also in 2013, ABS-CBN announced that the Richard Gomez-Dawn Zulueta love team will star in an upcoming drama series, You Are My Home, and a yet to be titled film with John Lloyd Cruz and Jessy Mendiola. However, Dawn eventually revealed that she is backing out of the two projects as she wants a better material for her comeback vehicles with Gomez. Both projects were shelved.
Dawn is currently seen in the latest TV adaptation of Dyesebel starring Anne Curtis where she plays the iconic mermaid’s biological mother.
